India Needs Solution for Terrorism, Not Advises

 - D Vishnumohan Rao

The Indian rulers are being pinched with the ‘pressure tactics’ of the said to be big brother of the globe, the United States of America. It would not have pinched so much if their stand and action was in conformity to their ‘pressure filled advises’ to India. The populace on earth belonging to the Indian origin will definitely curse the American stand as double standard.

This is about the commitments and statements of the United States of America, which had pledged to the world that it would cut the international terrorism from its roots off the planet earth. This was its response and instant reaction after the terrorist attack and collapse of World Trace Centre (WTC) on September 11. The American President was very clear about his stand on terrorism and countering it with all the power. Time and again, he reiterated this on various dais.

Now, the problem erupts when America tells India to maintain its compassion in the ‘issue’. The issue of terrorism and destruction is troubling the country and its populace from decades. When the terrorist outfits dared to barge into the Parliament, the rulers of the countries world over condemned it. The Indian government decided to, at last, take all the anti-national outfits to task and crush them with an iron hand and boot. Immediately American ministers for defence and foreign relations, Rumsfeld and Colin Powell respectively played their own role, pacifying the Indian rulers from taking any advancement in this regard. It is to be given a serious thought when a country, which almost razed off many parts of another country just with a suspicion that some terrorists were sheltered in, can give an advice a different country contrary to its actions. This is definitely amounting to maintenance of double standard.

It can also be said that America would have reacted in a different way, contrary to this, if the highest democratic office like parliament of a ‘different’ country was attacked. Finally, one subject is not understood as to why America had to pacify India from doing what is good to solve its problem.

Of course, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Home Minister Lal Kishen Advani resented the opinion of America in the open and reacted in strong condemnation to this. However, they are maintaining their passions when it comes to ‘War’ with the country, which is the origin of all this nonsense on the globe and India in particular.

Let us take a bird’s eye view on the post attack on Indian parliament on December 14, 2001, responses from various heads of economies, Pakistan beefing up its forces on the international border with India and so on.

Atal angry on ‘advising nations’

The Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vaj Payee expressed annoyance over the advises of America, England and China to maintain its fervour on terrorism. Addressing the Bharatiya Janata Parliamentary Party meeting on December 18, 2001 he seriously commented that those countries should first find a solution to end terrorism on the globe, instead of advising promising nations.

The union government had already discussed in detail with heads of various parties in the House about the action plans and moves, he detailed. Besides declining the offer of Pakistan for a joint probe into the incident, he strongly voiced the wish of the compatriots that the country is strong enough to probe into the attack and punish the culprits severely. He furthered that the punishment would be on par with the crime they had committed.

In an attempt to appease the BJPP members in the House, he expressed that he can understand the strength of patriotism and the feelings of BJP MPs. He suggested them to leave the matter of invading Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) for the bases of terrorist outfits.

Advani holds Pakistan responsible

Union Home Minister Lal Kishen Advani stated in the Lok Sabha session on December 18 that, Pakistan is solely responsible for the terrorists barge into the Parliament premises. The plot was to kill all the top leaders of the country in a single shot. India is not ready to keep its fingers crossed, it is committed to do everything to eliminate terrorism from the boundaries of the country, he vowed.

Addressing the BJP meeting along with the Prime Minister, Advani made his mind clear that the sacrifice of the security staff in preventing the terrorists from entering into the main complex of the Parliament will never go vain. All the decisions taken and actions initiated will be only to guide the country to the path of victory in the war against terrorism. America will be influenced to pressurise Pakistan for taking action on the terrorist outfits in that country. By chance, if it did not workout, then other ways and means will be scanned for a right approach, Advani detailed.

Eventually, Union government is said to have dropped the idea of chasing the terrorists and their bases in the PoK due to the pressure mounted on India by America.

Pakistan says, no pressure works on us

Pakistani external affairs minister Abdul Sattar declared that no pressure would be instrumental in making the Pakistan government take action on the Lashkar–e–Thoiba and Jaish–e–Mohammed, so called terrorist organisations. He discerned the Indian claim that it had all the evidences to prove those two organisations for the parliament attack on December 14, 2001 and said that everything was for a make belief but there is no strength and reality in the Indian’s argument holding LeT and JeM responsible.

Abdul passed on a generous advice that if the Indian government was having ‘sufficient evidence’, it may approach the United Nations Organisation’s Security Council. The Indian government was claiming about the evidences only to sling mud on the liberation movement in the Kashmir region, Abdul’s releases mentioned. Continuing his advice Abdul said that India should seek solution from Security Council.

The soldier turned politician President Parvez Musharraf speaking to a news agency recently warned that India would face the Pakistan music if it tried to cross the borders in the pretext of chasing the terrorists and their bases in PoK. India had put on a habit to blame Pakistan for every happening in their country, added Parvez, this habit should be shed at the earliest.

Arrest terrorist activities, America suggests Pakistan

American external relations ministry urged the Pakistan rulers to check the terrorist activities in the country and along the border with India. Any rise in extremist activities along the Line of Control between India and Pakistan might kindle untoward situation between the two nations, hence, both the nations should avoid any such situation, America appealed.

America further wanted the Pakistan government to take up measures to arrest the terrorist activities in their country and stop the organisations from spreading further. Senior officials in the American administration formally informed that LeT and JeM will be blacklisted. Official release to this effect might be passed in a week or two.

Assurance from Congress, the main Opposition

The main opposition in the Parliament, Congress party assured the Central government that it would extend all the needed co-operation for curbing the Pakistan inspired terrorism in the country. Opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha Manmohan Singh appreciated the Prime Minister Atal and Home Minister Advani, for their statement that all the political parties will be taken into confidence before initiating any action on terrorism. A decision to take all the political parties into confidence will be compelled by default in the democratic system. Only then, there would not arise any difference in opinion among the ruling and opposition parties.

Manmohan opined that anti-terrorism steps should be taken to protect the integrity of the country. He furthered that government should not jump to conclusions before having a detailed deliberations on all the angles involved in.

Indian government is being put in trouble with the ‘pressure filled advises’ by countries like America, Britain and China on one hand and on the other hand BJP – RSS are trying to work out their demand to declare war on the Pakistan instigated terrorism and reduce it to ashes. However, there is something that allows the union government to take a ease of breath is the co-operation of opposition. Whatever be it, hope that taking a decision and eliminating terrorism from the country should not become a fete on a sword’s edge.
