Progeny

The dynasty spreads with children, like a tree with a number of branches. A woman feels happy when she attains motherhood. A sterile lady feels she is unlucky. When parents die, the children, --especially sons-- perform the rituals. The horoscope indicates whether one may have children or not.

The 5th house signifies children. The fire signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are treated as barren signs. Water-signs Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio are known as fertile signs. Earth signs Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo are also fertile, but less powerful than water signs. The remaining air signs Libra, Aquarius and Gemini are treated as sterile signs but less powerful than fire signs. Aquarius is an exception.

The sign on the 5th cusp or the sign occupied by the ruler of the 5th house indicates progeny. If it is a water or earth sign and not afflicted or if the ruler of the 5th house is in its own sign whether it is fertile or barren sign but not afflicted by Saturn, Mars or Uranus by association or adverse aspect of any planet, then there is scope for progeny. Affliction to the planet in the 5th or ruler of the 5th may deny or delay progeny or cause abortion, miscarriage or early demise of the child. Moon or Sun in cancer, Pisces or Scorpio can give children, if not afflicted. A planet is said to be afflicted if it is associated with Saturn, Mars or Uranus or if it is situated at a distance of 90 or 180 degrees from any of these planets forming square or opposition aspect.

Saturn in the 5th house may deny children or cause delay or disappointment. Some may favour adoption. If the 5th house falls in Taurus or Capricorn occupied by Saturn, the person will be more attached to children.

Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus are masculine planets. Aries, Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius are male signs. You may have a male child if a male planet is in the 5th house, or if the ruler of the 5th house is in a male sign. Moon, Venus, Neptune, Saturn are feminine planets. Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pieces are feminine house. A female planet in the 5th house, or ruler of the 5th in a female sign may give a female child. Libra is a male sign, but ruled by a feminine planet Venus. Scorpio is female sign but ruled the male planet Mars or Pluto. Mercury can give both male and female children because it is rules both Gemini and Virgo, and much depends on its association with other planets or aspects. Mercury and Neptune give twins as they rule dual signs. A female planet can give a male child, if it is aspected or associated with a Male planet, especially Jupiter, well placed in own sign.

Planets in houses 2, 8, 11 will afflict the planet in the 5^th house, by square or opposition aspect and cause troubles and heavy expenditure. You may face similar problems, if squares or oppositions afflict the ruler of 5^th house. In some cases, they may give birth to still born or mentally retorted or defective children. Mercury, Neptune and Uranus are the planets for the brain, nervous system and blood cells. If afflicted, they may cause mental and nervous diseases.

It is stated that the 5^th house governs the first child, and 7^th house signifies the second child, the 9^th house the third child and the 11^th fourth child and the first house the 5^th child and so on, The third house governs brother or sister. So the 7^th is the 3^rd from 5^th house, so it signifies the sibling of the first child. The 9^th being the 3^rd from 7^th indicates the sibling of the second child.
